Breeding this Beetle for the First Time!
I had never produced adult Eleodes subnitens before, but I recently pulled some beetle larvae out of my desert communal insect setup, and according to @InvertebrateDude , that is likely the species I have bred. This adult enclosed slightly less than a month after I put the beetle larvae into the incubator! I am hoping that my Blue Death-Feigning Beetles will also enclose soon.

I like the little zebras all saying "subscribe!" At the end here too! They're no subscribe fish, but their little chorus was cute in their own way! So great watching your videos! Each layer of leaves I thought "surely this is enough" and then there was another layer of leaves!

Congrats!!! Beetles are such interesting little guys, they seem like the tanks of inverts, and for me they've always been so pleasant to watch do their little marches. I love how big their bodies are and how bouncy their little skinny legs are. May there be many more successful captive breeding stories in the future!

Congrats on breeding this species! BTW, while these will certainly pupate at warmer temps, unlike Cryptoglossini most Eleodes will pupate just fine at much cooler temps as well. The main trigger for pupation being isolation and a humid environment.

Commenting again because I came back to rewatch... Your excitement is infectious! Never been so excited for dobsonflies so much but I felt your energy and was hyped for you for it! And wow! That toe biter looks so cool, they're scary sumbitches (I say affectionately!) to see in person and I always show videos of them to friends visiting my area to say, "when we go swimming, look out for this guy, he's cool, but ouch!" I've never been brave enough to safely grab one myself - if I see one in my current stage of life I would, but all the times in the past, seeing them in the wild I was a kid and would just scream and panic, and all the braver adults around me would do the picking up and saying "look at its pincers! Those are legs!" Each raising the next generation!

The zebras are my favorites to look at, regardless of whether the stripes are broken or not, because I love the conrast between their colors and I love how round and shiny they are. These are definitely the isopods I'm hyping myself up to keeping one day! The yellow ones look fabulous. Im actually color sensitive, I believe when I was a kid I was told it was because I have extra cones in my eyes, and there were 2 little ones with some stronger yellow in them that ended up in the culled group. The bright side is that you could end up with a striped party mix 😂 the yellow stripes should be called tigers!

I got a colony of panda kings just over 2 weeks ago and I haven’t noticed much activity from them, I understand that they like to burrow and I’ve definitely noticed a lot of that and I keep their substrate fairly moist but I feel like I haven’t seen them at the surface /eating their food at all! Is this fairly normal behavior for them to take this long to acclimate? I know these behaviors were mentioned in the video I’m just anxious about how long they’ve been buried (they are alive, I dug up a couple to make sure they didn’t die from the stress of their new environment but besides that I haven’t touched any of them)

A big male, a big female that’s just slightly smaller, and a tiny little male who’s just a fourth of the size of the other male. I was definitely not expecting the small one to be male, it was quite the surprise! Mine seem very content to hide in their leaves for most of the day, but sometimes they’ll climb up on top of their grape wood or their worm shell and just sniff around. They’re super cute :)
